La tv del vicino è sempre più verde

La televisione alta del vicino mi fa molta compagnia mentre studio il mio delirante libro di letteratura industriale. Mi ricorda che ho un vicino, anche se non sono sicuro di quale sia, qualcuno visto sulle scale, forse altri studenti?
Ieri e l'altroieri versavano acqua dal balcone a mezzanotte, e poi c'è il mistero della loro superattività: forse maniaci del saltare sul letto, come quelli di flickr che si fanno la foto mentre saltano con il flash rapido che poi sembra che mminghia stanno volando? In ogni caso, se mi ributtano la loro acqua sporca dal balcone, gli tiro ... non so, una fialetta puzzolente. Che al mio paesino c'era la leggenda delle fialette puzzolenti, lanciate sotto il sedile dell'autista del pulmino della scuola. Solo ultimamente mia sorella ha confessato che quella fialetta famosa l'aveva tirata lei. L'autista se la prendeva tantissimo, litigava proprio con i passeggeri dodicenni al loro livello. Era il pulmino delle medie. Poi mi ricordo che anche mio nonno forse cinquant'anni fa lo guidava e che una volta si dice che li avesse fatti scendere a camminare nella neve fino alla scuola, una volta che gli avevano rotto... Che poi si è rotto davvero, mio nonno, due volte. Prima con un pulman grande, poi con un altro pulmino, che trasportava i polli da biella. L'altro l'ha centrato in pieno, aveva avuto una crisi si dice. Trac, e per il resto della vita a faticare con le gambe. Mio nonno era anche un ciclista, e fumava parecchio, le alfa senza filtro. Aveva una bici bianca, comprata non fatta da lui direttamente, da un pezzo non le facevano più da zero. Diceva che poteva andare da casa mia a casa sua pedalando solo una volta. Era tutta regolata bene... Beh poi era anche un po' in discesa.

Essere tornato al lavoro e aver trovato che il 50% dei miei colleghi (e amici) se ne va mi ha fatto un effetto strano.

Alcuni che, come me, lavoravano con contratti a termine semplicemente scadranno, come il latte, la prossima settimana. Altri dopo aver visto il loro contratto ridotto in corso d'opera, o rinnovato per tre mesi (vedi raccoglitori di pomodori stagionali), hanno deciso di fare altro, e a loro vanno i miei migliori auguri.

Altri, i piu fortunati, hanno trovato un contratto migliore (anche se dello stesso tipo), in posti equivalenti.

Io, che rimango perchè non sono ancora in scadenza (sono tre anni che sono in "pastorizzazione"), nessuno ha cambiato in peggio il mio contratto e non ne ho sottomano uno migliore ehm sono ligio alla causa del mio datore di lavoro, mi interrogo su questo strano modo di sopravvivere.

Sui lavori a progetto, le borse "di studio", le collaborazioni occasionali si è detto molto: piu spazio all'iniziativa giovanile, meno vincoli, piu possibilità per gli intraprendenti.

Poi però si scopre che i borsisti di studio non "studiano", i lavoratori a progetto non lavorano su quel progetto, i vincoli di orario sono in realtà vincolosi, i supposti intraprendenti se la prendono in quel posto spesso e poco volentieri.

Intendiamoci, non mi lamento del mio posto in particolare, non lo credo radicalmente diverso da altri, capisco che le aziende si conformano naturalmente sugli spazi che la legge gli lascia.

Siamo tutti "imprenditori di noi stessi". La differenza è che gli imprenditori normalmente sono quelli che possiedono i mezzi di produzione, che investono, che hanno obbiettivi di costruzione del benessere, non si sopravvivenza. Per quanto mi ricordo io, quelli che mirano a sopravvivere e vendono la propria forza lavoro si chiamavano in un altro modo, meno alla moda.

Per tutelarli sono state conquistate alcune cose chiamate mutua, ferie, tfr, tredicesima, contributi, contrattazione.
Tutte parolacce che non è stato necessario abolire, ma solo restringerne l'applicazione. I dipendenti, circondati da un'aureola di diritti divini, sono diventati i privilegiati.

L'imprenditore corre dei rischi, ha autonomia, offre servizi alle altre aziende... Ha una gamma ristretta di ammortizzatori, essendo un'attività in cui il rischio ha una sua funzione... Lo sfigo-neo-laureato non è esattamente nella stessa posizione, direi.

Detto questo, forse spirano i venti dell'avvenire, che sussurrano la parola "assunzione". Una cosa che una volta era l'inizio di un percorso, ora sembra la meta. Il mondo del lavoro alla rovescia.

Ode to Tent City London

Let's share some travel experience this time!

In 1999 (a loooong time ago!) we went to London. Ryanair was young then, and so it was a bit pricey, but Torino was connected directly and it was summertime! So off we went, and a horrible sandwich and a 30 pound, 30 minutes' train journey after, we were in central London!

We brought tents, and so we ended up in the only camping site in London, the Tent City!

It was basically a field, with and old barrack with (common) showers and a cashier. It was in central london, or maybe just outside the first zone of the subway. The place had been founded by some hippies in the '60s, and it was run by some 90's hippies still!

At night, some music parties (I remember it was the Manu-chau king of the bongo - obsessive summer), lots of alcohol (I was eighteen after all!) and the usual amount of pot smoking you'd expect to find in a summer camp run by and hosted by post-hippies. (i don't smoke, makes me cough)

Some really strange people were staying in the various tiny tents:

- a gay couple, with a 25 years old tall guy, wearing a miniskirt and rollerblades (which we instantly called "giacu fumna" literally "james woman".. don't ask) and a 60 years old professor, wearing some hawaiian shirt- Expecially funny people when dancing on the king of the bongo in the morning.
- a traveling circus, whose components were all black, performing some stunts on bikes, smoking from dawn till dusk, and humiliating us all in the (common) showers... (extreme drop of self esteem)
- assorted guys with black fingernails
- an italian girl working for the organization, which let us go without paying for the last day (she had been sitting in a strange circle while we were packing... so "no need to pay brothers... we're all friends here.."
- a corean guy doing nightshifts at the cashier, normally giving you back all the money you gave him as change when paying...

It was the cheapest possible place in London (except sleeping under bridges).

don't look for it though... the neighborhood had it closed some years ago for night noises and loud music. they were not "all friends there" after all... :D

To liven up the website, and try something new, here's a brand new version of www.vermario.com.

The underlying system has changed from Wordpress to Drupal, but don't worry! The rubbish content is still with us, it has been migrated completely! :)

On the right (bad luck if you read this through an rss reader), there are updated links to the smart articles of Theodor and Splunge, that I generously host (one day, and that day might even not come, i will ask you for a favor... :) ).

Tagging is extensively supported, and I'm trying to tag all the old posts, (i bet you will see a huge "Rubbish" tag, in the tag cloud on the left...

A bit of cleaning is still necessary, and the theme will likely get some modifications, but I hope you like the new design!

no, not by me, since I'm spending nights reading some "the history of media from the stone age" books (how many did I already had to suffer?? argh), but by some guys with more will and wit. http://little-people.blogspot.com/ These are small scenes (really tiny) placed on the streets using small figurines. That's SWEEEEET (If only I had a macro lens, and some old plastic mini-men... WAIT! I'VE GOT THEM!) http://tibetunderground.blogspot.com/ This is some more crazy guy going through the sewers (in a boat , no less!!) to cement small hand made statues in mysterious places... Illegal, I think, but just so cool!!

Wikipedia ramblings, accents and the dukes of hazzard

As always, when an exam comes close, I find myself enjoying everything else but studying. Studying is utterly boring, so I started a very long session of wikipedia rambling: you start with a term, you end up who knows where.

So the findings of tonight, started to know something about the differences between northern and southern USA states, ended up with:

- The Dukes of Hazzard (known as "Bo e Luke" around here), with details on seasons, cars used and pictures of fan meetings, the making of homebrew liquor. And finally a page that shows how to build your own "General Lee" car. (including the sound of the 12 tune horn). I also understood why they used no guns in the show! Bo and Luke were on parole, so they could not have access to guns. I guess Dynamite loaded arrows are more legal there... So senseful.

- Trying to understand how the accents change in the us, I found a real gem: the Speech accent archive. Probably it's not the first time something like this has been done, but this is really extensive and web based. People from all over the world are asked to read the same phrase in english. Age, sex, provenience, type of education are gathered too... It's really something.
Check out one of the italian speaking people (curiously labeled "Sicilian")!

Unfortunately, the finnish male example has nearly no accent. A pity, I thought i could hear Yukka again! (famous tourist guide, nevermind...).

Also, since the german samples are from people too good at english, I failed to recreate the "Nihilistic accent" from the Big Lebowski!

Hi, while I'm considering a complete website restyling, I found the old link to my previous website.

It seems I have to dust off my flash skills, to teach some teachers in a local high school... ehm...

The new website will have to consider some aggregation to my web hostees (Splunge and Theodor), some tagging and mapping and flickering goodness, and a wiki section where to put potentially useful stuff.

Future will tell! For now I'm stuck with the ultra exciting exam next week about the history of journalism, yeah, it will knock me out! WHOOOO
