Lebanon and Zidane

I am not an expert in middle-east matters, and I won't pretend to be one.

That said, this morning Israel went bombing the International Airport in Beirut. Ok, you knew that already. I knew that too, because www.repubblica.it is set as my homepage, and this morning it was the first thing I saw.

Maybe it's just me, but this sounds like important news, with severe consequences (some report 52 kills) and probably even more severe ones in the future (trying to involve Iran, for example).

Of course, this is too much complex a matter to debate here, but this is my concern: why was I not able to find any information this morning on TV about this? Why all I found was the ongoing debate about what Materazzi told Zidane in the finals?

Of course, this might have been due to:
- me not trying hard enough (i had to leave for work)
- the event taking place this morning early (6 am Italian time)
- the world cup's long tail on Football-driven Italy

Or, was someone trying to do normally quite blatant things (like invading another sovereign state, bombing the prime minister's house of another one, to mention some) during a major sports event? Was it that easy? Are we that stupid?
